Paced 1:35 at the Hobbler Half Marathon. I know it is possible to lose satellite reception in the canyon but this course was definitely short. I always pace off of mile markers and not my garmin but there was no 13 mile marker so this made pacing a challenge. Rather than standing around and waiting until 1:35 to cross the mat I stayed exactly on my 7:15 per mile pace and crossed at 1:33:38. I was right on pace the entire race and there isn't much I can do to control the fact that the course was short.
What I did do is immediately after crossing I started jogging back to let the other pacers know. For those that pace what are your thoughts on this? If the course is significantly short/long should you stay on your correct mile pace or still aim to hit overall time? In my opinion it is tacky and bad pacing to slow down too much in the finishing shoot...anyway I was just wondering what others (Andy?) thoughts are?
