Personal:

I decided to join to hold myself accountable for my training and because I love learning from others running experiences.  I just started running a little over a year ago and have a lot to learn.  I work fulltime as a Manager of Telecommunications for Intermountain Healthcare and go to school online through Weber State University.  If you want to know more check out my blog: www.runningfortrevor.blogspot.com

5.25 miles nice and easy.  Openned with a 10 minute mile and somehow managed to bring the overall pace down to 8:50.

Just for fun here are my UV marathon splits from last year compared to this year.  This marathon was a good race for me last year so it is incredibly exciting and encouraging to see the progress I have made in one years time.

That is fun to look at.

19 minutes is A LOT OF TIME!!! :-)

I like what you said yesterday about giving yourself a good break now. You have been working really hard for 6 months... you need a little break (ie. keep the heart rate LOW) for a bit. Then you'll be able to keep improving and build on what you've done.

From Andrea on Mon, Jun 11, 2012 at 10:31:17 from 72.37.244.100

Your improvement has been so motivating this year.it just goes to show what consistent training and hard work will do for running.

Just a word of caution...little to no running on some days the next couple weeks will help a ton after a very long training cycle and two marathons this spring. I remember last fall after the marathon I kept running every day the next two weeks while Emily Bates took 2 weeks completely off. We ran together afterwards and she was so fresh and got right back into training and I could barely keep up with her. It took me so much longer to recover and my body really needed the break. Just something to think about :)

I would also recommend taking iron again just for this week (if you aren't still taking it) in order to prevent the levels dropping.

i agree -- slow, steady, and patient in the recovery phase. it makes all the difference and health is #1.

way cool to see those split comparisons. you are on a roll this year!

From Rachelle on Mon, Jun 11, 2012 at 12:15:29 from 159.212.71.17

Thanks Jake, Andrea, and Allie for your words of caution. Sometimes I need to hear that from someone else. Although I want more than anything to ride the high and run, run, run I know I need to be smart and keep the bigger picture in mind.

Andrea - I never went off of the iron supplement after Boston. I figure it can't hurt me.

The temptation (for ALL of us) is to just keep pressing on when things are going great. I'm as guilty of that as anyone else. But you are actually less likely to hit a plateau if you let yourself get a little "de-trained" for a few weeks, then re-build again.

The cool thing is that what you might have thought of as your "ceiling" 6 months ago is no longer the ceiling - that is your starting point that you build from now. Who knows where you can go from here?!

That is incredible to see Rachelle! You really have done a great job on your training. Enjoy the recovery time now...with a cookie or two :)

You don't know me but I found you through your other blog. Hope it doesn't creep you out. :) Just wanted to say that you did awesome at the Utah valley marathon. I ran that as well and it was killer! Good job.

Wow, you have made great progress!!! Nice job on this last marathon! You are one of the only people I know that got the time you wanted.. You ran a smart race:) great job

From Kam on Thu, Jun 14, 2012 at 16:35:03 from 68.66.163.179

The break will probably do you as much good mentally as physically, Rachelle. Your training has been rigorous. Some time of relaxed running, without worrying about splits, pickups, inclines and paces will let you come back in a few weeks with renewed enthusiasm. But then, you seem pretty irrepressible.

Amazing spring early summer of racing! You are smart in taking a break. You continue to impress me with your smart racing.
