Ran 4 miles outside in my new racing flats.  I am loving these shoes but definitely easing into them and not going too far too fast.  first 3 miles were easy, last mile @tempo pace 7:15.

Went home changed shoes and did 5.25 miles with 4x800 sprint intervals, 3:20, 3:18, 3:15, 3:10.

Racing flats: I am a fan. Nice going today Rachelle!

Nice workout Rachelle! It's wonderful to see another amazing runner on the blog! Is this the first time you've used flats or just this pair?

RAD it is my first time ever. I am still a running virgin. I started with low mileage and loved them but realized they are forcing my calves to work harder.

Suggestions? I am debating about whether or not I should wear them for a 10k on Monday.

Unfortunately I would have to concede to Lily here. I've never worn racing flats. I'm too slow for the 5oz difference in shoes to really matter :)

I would think, however, that if you did 4 comfortably today you should be fine for a 10K on Monday. But, that is just an educated guess. I've run a lot, but have never been brave enough to try racing flats...maybe someday :)

Oh how fun! I just looked up your blog and realized who you were! I see you in the gym every morning and we usually run on the treadmills next to each other. (I think :) I can't believe how good you are for starting only a year ago! Some real natural talent. I only use my racing flats for races. If they are a good pair they should not need to be broken in after an initial try. I feel like they do help and I only avoid them if I am injured. The mileage on racing flats is so low (over 100 miles) and they are so pricey that I take them off first chance I get. Anyway I enjoy mine and I feel like they do help to shave seconds off when you get to the point that seconds matter.

Rachelle you will be fine wearing the flats on Monday. A 10k isn't going to hurt you. Anything over that and I would be more cautious as you are just getting used to them. But like Susan said, they only last about 100-125 miles so you wanna take those things off as soon as you finish the race. No worries about your calves though. You'll be fine I think.

Thank you so much for your feedback girls! It is so incredibly helpful.

And yes Susan that is me! :) I need to figure out how to get a picture uploaded.
