Personal:

I decided to join to hold myself accountable for my training and because I love learning from others running experiences.  I just started running a little over a year ago and have a lot to learn.  I work fulltime as a Manager of Telecommunications for Intermountain Healthcare and go to school online through Weber State University.  If you want to know more check out my blog: www.runningfortrevor.blogspot.com

Weights - we worked tri's, chest, and core.

8 mile run with Amber, 7:48 pace.  Felt hard, I think running after weights is always a bit harder for me for some reason.  I'm sure I'll start to get more used to it.

10 miles with AmberD and melissa, 7:37 pace.  First attempt at Speedwork since the marathon on June 14th.  8 x 1 min on/off intervals.  I have no speed....it was ugly and I had to crawl to finish 10 miles. At least I have a starting point....at a blazing 6:46 pace for 1 minute! ;)

I'm going to Chicago for a week in August for work so I'm going to run a 10K while I'm there on August 10th.  Today's workout was my attempt at considering training for it.

Weights:  Legs day....very very wobbly legs

6 miles on the SF River trail mostly with my sister, AmberD, Mack, and Jen were there too, 8:30 pace.  I spent all night making tin can walkie talkies with extra long string so that I could talk to everyone with my wobbly legs but then I forgot to bring them.  Next time...

7 miles, 8:08 pace.  Sweating buckets and so tired and fatigued.  These weights are really kicking my trash.  In a good way, but it is taking me awhile to get used to.

Weights - shoulders, biceps, upper body.  45 min

1 hour run down to the river trail and then back up to the gym, 7:53 pace.  Second day in a row running by myself....so boring!  I'm pacing 1:35 at the Hobbler Half tomorrow.  I honestly hope I can hang!  My speed is basically nonexistent at this point.

Great article by Runners Connect yesterday.  I love the 4 takeaways and really needed to hear #1 especially since I've had a really crappy running year.

1.  Accept the ebb and flow of your running career

"It is extremely rare to have a running career in which every year boasts improvement."

2.  Accept the decrease in speed that comes with aging

3.  Focus on your own hard work rather than anyone else’s race results

4.  Be Brave

“courage is not the absence of fear, but the realization that something else is more important than that fear”.

So, take joy in the struggle and the sacrifice it takes to be a runner.  It’s part of what makes this sport so wonderful.

Race: Hobbler Half Pacing (12.92 Miles) 01:33:38

Paced 1:35 at the Hobbler Half Marathon.  I know it is possible to lose satellite reception in the canyon but this course was definitely short.  I always pace off of mile markers and not my garmin but there was no 13 mile marker so this made pacing a challenge.  Rather than standing around and waiting until 1:35 to cross the mat I stayed exactly on my 7:15 per mile pace and crossed at 1:33:38.  I was right on pace the entire race and there isn't much I can do to control the fact that the course was short.

What I did do is immediately after crossing I started jogging back to let the other pacers know.  For those that pace what are your thoughts on this?  If the course is significantly short/long should you stay on your correct mile pace or still aim to hit overall time?  In my opinion it is tacky and bad pacing to slow down too much in the finishing shoot...anyway I was just wondering what others (Andy?) thoughts are?
